The Montgomery Ward editors described the "Regulation Style Track Shoe" this way:

American Olympic Team pattern. Light weight, strong, and flexible. Tough black leather uppers and leather soles fitted with six firmly fastened steel spikes. Steel plate between outer and inner soles holds spikes firmly. Suitable for running or sprinting. Tight fitting last.
