I (Charlie) had been fascinated by NIKEiD from Nike for a while... and I finally decided to Just Do It!
The NIKEiD ordering system is on their Web site. It leads the prospective buyer through the shoe customization process step by step.
It even has detailed measuring instructions if one is not certain of what size to get. However, when I picked out mine, I got familiar styles (first, the Nike Air Trainer Escape; then, the Nike Air Pegasus).
The NIKEiD ordering system rejects certain names... for example, one cannot get a pair with "Reebok" or "Sweatshop" or even Nike's very own "Converse"... oddly enough, the similar Converse One system for ordering custom Chucks will let you put "Nike" on your Chucks but not "Converse" on them! On the other hand, "Charlie" was not in their naughty word list.
Nike beat their delivery estimate by five days; roughly three weeks from order to receipt. Several days of that was UPS Ground from Oregon to Texas.
Here's a front view, showing the "Charlie" on the tongue.
I will comment that the gray and black upper appeared somewhat lighter on the Website than it is on the shoe. It was closer to gray on the Website, but it is closer to black on the shoe.
Nike said "three to four weeks" on these, and they were right at three weeks... although I got the two pairs on different days... MUCH more fun opening boxes that way! On both examples, the Personal ID is on the outside near the heel.
This particular version features "Clima-FIT" water-resistant uppers. NIKEiD lets you put together unusual versions, like a road-running sole with a trail-running upper!
Nike shipped these really fast... just over two weeks. I was a bit surprised by the return address: Singapore!
This style failed rapidly; the support cage on the inside pulled loose from the midsole. This resulted in a completely useless shoe. The same fate hit the Air Presto Plain iD shown below.
Another pair shipped from Singapore in just around two weeks. Like the Air Trainer Escape, these were emblazoned with "Charlie" across the tongue.
This is a version of the Nike Air Huarache 2K4 iD basketball shoe.
This particular style features NIKEiD customization in the front ("Charlie") and the back ("73"). Interestingly enough, it would not take my initials ("CP"). Go figure.
These ultra-comfy Air Max 95's took 16 days from ordering to delivery. They were shipped from Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. The "Charlie" is located towards the back under the SWOOSH.
